A WOMAN has died and a 22-year-old man was left fighting for life following separate smashes in Prestwich.
The 25-year-old woman suffered serious injuries when her Peugeot 207 car was in collision with a Ford Mondeo in Bury Old Road at the junction of Nursery Road.
The accident happened on Sunday at 6.15am.
She died at Salford Royal Hospital in Salford the following day. She has not been named and it is not known whether she lived locally.
The driver of the Ford Mondeo was last night in hospital with serious injuries.
Around 12 hours after the first accident, a 22-year-old man suffered a serious head injury after an off-road motorcycle was in collision with a car. The incident happened at the junction of Heywood Road and Chatsworth Avenue at 6.10pm on Sunday.
The motorbike rider, who has also not been named, remains in a critical condition in hospital.
Bury Old Road was closed for six hours while the incident was dealt with and traffic in the area was severely disrupted.
Currently, Bury Council is preparing to undertake a number of traffic calming measures in the Heywood Road area, including imposing a 20mph speed limit zone on part of the highway.
Other proposals are for a series of speed cushions and road humps.
Meanwhile, Greater Manchester Police are appealing for those with information about any of the accidents to get in touch.
They should ring 0161 856 3572.
