THE countdown has begun for the third annual Joe Geeling Five Mile Run in memory of the murdered Bury schoolboy.
This year’s event will be held on Sunday, June 6. Organisers are hoping to get a “big name” to start the race which will leave the Bolholt Country Park Hotel in Walshaw Road, Bury, and follow a five mile circular route.
The event will raise money for the Joe Geeling Trust, set up by the boy’s parents, Tom and Gwen.
Proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and the New Children’s Hospital Appeal. Last year’s run raised more than £6,000.
Joe, who suffered from cystic fibrosis, died in March, 2006 after being stabbed by Michael Hamer, a fellow pupil at St Gabriel’s High School, Bury.
More information will be announced soon in The Bury Times.
