VOLUNTEERS working to fight the polio disease have celebrated 25 years with a relay marathon in Ramsbottom.
The event started at the urn, in Market Place, where walkers and runners joined Rotary clubs of Ramsbottom and Prestwich and Whitefield for a 27-mile circular route.
Each person covered one mile through Radcliffe, Walshaw, Hawkshaw and Holcombe, carrying an Olympic-style torch.
Eric Walmsley, from Ramsbottom Rotary Club, said: “The torch is to signify the hope given to millions of people who, without the initiative of Rotary International, would have been crippled with polio.”
