A HIGH-powered delegation crossed over the Pennines to establish the reasons for the success of Bury’s world-famous market.
Senior officers and councillors from Barnsley Council wanted to see how they could revitalise and invest in their own market.
Issues discussed during the visit included recent successes, promotional and marketing activity, trader and management relations, rent levels and investment.
Bury market is visited by hundreds of thousands of satisfied shoppers every week and has been a key player in the town’s retail sector for more than 500 years.
Councillor Dorothy Gunther, executive member for environment, said: “The traders on the market are honest, decent, hard working people. With all the recent high profile activity it’s no surprise that so many TV companies and radio stations are using the market for broadcasts.”
