YOUTHS have been criticised by the fire service for starting grass fires which tied up their vital resources for most of an afternoon.
Firefighters were called to a series of blazes at Century Lodge in Farnworth between noon and 5pm on Thursday.
Watch commander Ben Cartwright, from Farnworth fire station, said: “We’ve had several fires there throughout the day, and they were almost certainly started deliberately by children or youths.
“While we’re attending them, we can’t attend other fires, and we plead to parents to make sure their children aren’t doing this.We can’t be in two places at once”
