Woman’s £67,000 spree with footballer’s card

A TEAM of Bury detectives tracked down a woman who swindled a Premiership footballer out of £67,000.

Daryl Louise Harrison, aged 21, from Kersal, had met Mido, who is a striker currently on loan with Sunderland, and made a note of his credit card details.

Then in April 2009, she contacted a travel agency in The Rock, Bury, and booked a £13,995 luxury holiday to Dubai for herself and friends using Mido’s details.

Over the next four months, Harrison continued her sending spree, buying dental treatment worth £5,810, another holiday in Dubai for £8,000 and expensive clothes, furniture and computer equipment.

It was not until July that 27-year-old Mido noticed something amiss.

He cancelled his card and his bank reported the matter to police.

Officers based at Bury CID then set about trawling through a complex catalogue of data to produce evidence which led to Harrison’s arrest.

She admitted 10 counts of fraud, and was jailed for 14 months at Bolton Crown Court. The judge also took a further 36 offences into consideration.

After the hearing, Det Insp Lynne Vernon, of Bury Police, said: “Because the first crime was committed in Bury, it was the responsibility of our detectives to investigate.

“They had to sift through a great deal of information to establish a sequence of events and to piece together exactly what happened and when.

“They have come up with a brilliant end result.”

She added: “When officers went to her house, they found a treasure trove of items, including a walk-in wardrobe.

“It was so full of goods that there wasn’t much left after all the evidence had been taken away.”

Det Con Lindsey Worrall said: “This was a case of compulsive spending and unfathomable greed, with no regard for her victims.

“Harrison now faces action under the Proceeds of Crime Act.”
