Eight arrests in second day of Blackburn drug raids

EIGHT people have been arrested as part of a second day of drugs raids in Blackburn this morning.

More than 100 officers raided homes in Blenhelm Close, Hastings Close, Aberdeen Drive, Rawstorne Street, Monmouth Road and Fairhope Court to target drug dealing in response to concerns from the community.

Seven men and one woman were arrested, all of whom will be questioned about suspected drug supply offences.

The operation began at around 8am when officers, including operational support units and the dog section with drug detection dogs, swooped on the target addresses.

After the raids, posters were placed on the windows of each address, explaining what had happened. Neighbourhood policing teams delivered leaflets to members of the community to inform them about the arrests.

The activity follows a series of coordinates strikes in Blackburn yesterday morning when eight men were arrested and charged with drugs offences.

Superintendent Terry Woods of Blackburn Police, said: "This is the second day of strikes as part of Operation Nimrod which shows our commitment and determination to track down people suspected of dealing drugs in our communities.

“This commitment will not end when the Nimrod raids end. Wwe will continue to seek out those who blight the lives of residents by dealing drugs in this town.”
