BUILDERS will have to record any archaeological finds uncovered during the construction of 15 houses in Radcliffe.
The properties are set to be built in Bury and Bolton Road on the site of the Dil Se restaurant, which will be demolished.
The scheme was approved by Bury Council’s planning control committee last month, but members decided to add two extra conditions at their meeting on Tuesday evening.
These require a programme of building recording before the demolition of the restaurant and a programme of archaeological recording works before construction.
The clauses were added due to the site being located next to Watling Street, a key Roman road, and the potential that artefacts may be found.
Speaking at the meeting, Councillor Jackie Harris said: “I welcome these two extra conditions. If there is something of value there to the borough’s heritage, it will be preserved.”
