AROUND 50 new jobs could be coming to Todmorden as part of a scheme which has seen the town garner national recognition.
The first intake of 20 for the combined venture, between self-sufficiency experts Incredible Edible Todmorden, the Acorn Centre and Calderdale Council, begin this month.
The scheme is aimed mostly at young jobseekers. Their wages are paid by the government for the first six months and people out of work for nine months, or more, can apply.
IET spokesman Nick Green said: “Most will be IET jobs and there are several projects. Some of the jobs include establishing a small market garden and training centre in Walsden, working on a four-acre plot near Gorpley reservoir, and on town centre growing sites.
“People will be needed at the Acorn Centre as well, where there will be jobs for administrators, web designers and IT people.”
The scheme is set to be launched at the Acorn Centre this Friday, from 10am to 3pm.
