New Year's Eve disco in aid of charity appeal

NEW Year’s Eve revellers will be raising money for the Marie Curie Nurses Appeal as they welcome in 2010.

Women strutting their stuff on a dance floor in Little Lever on December 31 will be helping fund free home nursing care for local terminally ill people as the money raised from the event will go towards the charity’s £200,000 target.

Marie Curie Cancer Care, which is being supported by The Bolton News, launched the campaign in June to reach the total in a year.

Jackie Harrison has organised the event at A Touch of Class dance studio, in High Street, with friends, Doreen Single and June Morton.

She was inspired because her brother, Keith Harrison, aged 38, of Stockport, was cared for by Marie Curie nurses before he died of lung cancer in 1996.

Miss Harrison, aged 41, of Stockport, said: “A few of us at the disco have family affected by cancer. My personal experience made me want to do something; the nurses are fantastic. Not only will it be a fun way to bring in the New Year, but it will help a great charity too.”

The three friends hold a women-only disco on the third Saturday of the month in addition to the New Year’s Eve party. This year all the proceeds will go to the Marie Curie Nurses Appeal. The event is fancy dress, with a uniform theme, and there will be an auction, tombola, a buffet, a disco and collections, from 8pm until late.

Hannah Taylor, community fundraiser, said: “We’re really grateful to Jackie for choosing Marie Curie Cancer Care to benefit from the disco. We hope everyone has a great night, especially knowing they are starting 2010 by helping our nurses provide more care to people who are terminally ill.”

Tickets, at £5, are available on the door or from Jackie Harrison on 07709 185235. Auction and tombola prizes are also needed.
