CHRISTMAS collections in aid of the Marie Curie Nurses Appeal have raised thousands of pounds.
Volunteers, including staff from The Bolton News, have been out in force in supermarkets and the Market Place for weeks to collect donations.
The charity has now revealed that their efforts raised £4,000 towards the £200,000 target.
Marie Curie Cancer Care launched the campaign, with the backing of The Bolton News, in June, with a year to collect the money.
All the proceeds of the appeal will fund free home nursing care for terminally ill people.
Hannah Taylor, Marie Curie community fundraiser, said: “Every single penny of that £4,000 was collected by a local person donating their time to collect for the appeal. We’d like to thank each and everyone of them, including staff at The Bolton News, for giving up their time at such a busy time of year. Without their support we wouldn’t have raised any of that money.
“Special thanks to Christine, from our Bolton volunteers group, who impressively manages the rotas and organising the collections, thanks also go to the supermarkets and shoppers who donated.”
● Collections will also be staged in March and April as part of the Great Daffodil Appeal. If you would like to help, contact 0161 255 2809 to find out more.
