AN aspiring Darwen model has beaten thousands to make it as a calendar boy for 2010.

Christopher Hedley, 20, will appear as Mr April in the Galaxy FM’s Manhunt calendar, but insists he is “no oil painting”.

He entered the web-based competition earlier in the year after persua-sion from his girlfriend, and said he never expected to do so well.

Chris, of Anchor Grove, said: “When I sent in my picture I never thought that I’d be considered, but I thought ‘why not?’ “When I heard I’d made it to the final 40 and was called for an interview in Manchester, I was shocked.

“Then I got down to the final 20 and we did shots with different clothes and a topless one.

“I don’t know which one they’ve used, I haven’t seen the final product yet, but when I found out I was Mr April I thought they were joking. I thought it was along the lines of being an April Fool!”

The winners were decided by a vote on the Galaxy FM website.

Chris, a former Moorland High School pupil, works as a football coach at Blackburn Rovers but now hopes to persue a modelling career part time.
