Shakers’ TV role in battle on violence in the home

BURY FC is “blowing the whistle” on domestic violence.

And the TV cameras were at Gigg Lane during the run-up to this year’s White Ribbon Campaign which officially got under way yesterday.

BBC’s One Show interviewed Bury manager Alan Knill and footage was shot of the players wearing the distinctive white ribbons.

Bury is among a number of soccer teams to give its backing to the White Ribbon football campaign, entitled “Blow the whistle on violence against women”.

The aim is to get male role models such as football players and managers to wear a white ribbon.

Each year, from November 25, men and boys are urged to wear the white ribbon for a week or a fortnight. Ribbons are currently on sale at Gigg Lane for £1 each. Bury FC has supported the campaign for several years.
