Flood alert as more storms due to hit the NW

BOLTON is set for more extreme weather conditions over the next two days.

The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings for the Upper Irwell catchment area, which includes Farnworth, Little Lever, Radcliffe and Bury.

Last Wednesday, storms caused chaos for commuters and parents taking their children to school.

Gale force winds and heavy rain hit areas including Chorley Old Road in Horwich, Belmont Road, Blackrod, Bradshaw Meadow and Ramsbottom. Bolton Council received more than 50 reported incidents of flooding in the town.

The Met Office confirmed that more heavy rain is expected today and overnight, through to tomorrow morning.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: “We are expecting rain from the South West and it is going to be raining on and off until the early hours of Wednesday morning. We are expecting rainfall of somewhere between 25 to 30ml of rain in Bolton during this time.”
