UEFA cup final violence: Chorley man admits charge

A Chorley man is one of nine men who have admitted charges in connection with violent clashes surrounding last year's UEFA Cup final.

David Annette, 35, of Yarrow Road, Chorley, Lancashire, pleaded guilty today to violent disorder at Manchester Crown Court.

The violence took place in May, 2008 in Manchester, as crowds gathered to watch Rangers play Zenit St Petersburg on screens erected in the city centre.

Mark Stoddart, 25, of Westmuir Street, Glasgow, pleaded guilty to section 47 assault and two offences of violent disorder.

Michael Hindle, 21 of Westmorland Close, Leyland, John Saunders, 31, of Fullarton Road, Cumbernauld, Gordon Forrest, 45, of Ledi Drive, Bearsden, Glasgow, James Bell, 42, of Corrie View, Cumbernauld, Thomas Murphy, 28, of Flatterton Road, Greenock, Renfrewshire and David McCullough, 21, of Moorcroft Drive, Burnage, Manchester all pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

A 17-year-old boy from Glasgow who cannot be named for legal reasons also pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

Scott McSeveney, 21, of Hunter Avenue, Shotts, Lanarkshire, pleaded not guilty to section 47 assault and violent disorder and will face trial on March 15, 2010.

Brian McVicar, 19 and Greg McKenna, 22, both of Falkland Drive, East Kilbride, pleaded not guilty to violent disorder and will face trial on May 17, 2010.

Sentencing of all defendants will take place after the trials.
