A CAMPAIGN to bring home a former soldier who faces a murder trial in Baghdad is being launched in Bury this weekend.
Danny Fitzsimons is alleged to have shot dead two fellow mercenaries after an argument on a base in the Green Zone in Baghdad earlier this year. He could be sentenced to death under Iraqi law.
His family and legal team’s campaign to bring the Middleton man home for “trial and treatment” will get off the ground at a public meeting in the Village Hotel at Waterfold Park at noon today.
Among the speakers will be local Labour MP Jim Dobbin and rebel soldier Lance Corporal Joe Glenton, who has defied the Army by marching and campaigning against the Afghan war.
