Thwaites produces beer for Oktoberfest festival

BREWERY giant Thwaites has created a special seasonal ale to mark the world’s most famous beer festival.

The tipple, Golden Wunder, has been produced by the Blackburn company to mark Oktoberfest, a celebration of German beer that takes place every year in Munich.

Thwaites said it used a special malt and three different kinds of German hops to create the brew, which is a 4.6 per cent straw-coloured ale with a “distinctive continental hoppiness” and a smooth dry finish.

Lee Williams, Thwaites’ brand manager, said: “This is the first time we have done something like this to celebrate Oktober-fest.

“Obviously, we already sell a couple of German beers so we have a strong association with Germany.

“The Oktoberfest is a celebration of German beer and we believe we have created an ale that combines the best German ingredients with 200 years of Lancastrian brewing know-how.”

Brewery bosses have supplied Thwaites’ pub landlords with promotional kits so they can stage their own Oktoberfest events with Golden Wunder on tap.

Thwaites’ national trade manager, Mark Boardman, said: “We are committed to creating new and exciting ales to captivate consumers and tap into the imagination of buyers.

“Golden Wunder has been really well received among the off trade and is just one example of what we are capable of achieving as a quality, artisan brewer.”

Munich’s legendary Oktoberfest is one of Germany’s most famous annual events.

The 16-day festival, which dates back to 1810, attracts more than six million people who come together to celebrate Bavarian food, beer and music.

Golden Wunder is on sale now throughout Thwaites’ East Lancashire pubs.
