MASKED robbers armed with pickaxes targeted the Prestons of Bolton jewellery store in front of dozens of stunned shoppers this morning.
Two men wearing green boiler type suits and white cloth across their faces jumped out of a blue BMW on Bank Street and ran into the store, smashing their way into the window display holding expensive watches.
The store’s security systems were activated, filling the shop with thick smoke as the two men jumped into the waiting car, driven by a third man and sped off down Crown Street just before 10.30am.
The area outside the shop was sealed off while police began their investigation and firemen started clearing smoke from the store.
Nobody is believed to have been hurt and it is not yet known whether the thieves got away with anything.
