Blackburn man back in jail after Lancashire Telegraph appeal

A WANTED man is back behind bars thanks to an appeal in the Lancashire Telegraph.

Ronald McLachlan, 51, from Blackburn, was originally jailed in June 2008 for an offence of affray in Carluke Street, Blackburn.

Police believed he was still in the Blackburn area and, on Wednesday afternoon, as a direct result of an appeal in the Lancashire Telegraph, officers received an anonymous call alerting them to his whereabouts.

He was wanted on prison recall after failing to comply with conditions that formed part of his early release.

McLachlan was arrested at an address in Pilmuir Road and was yesterday returned straight to prison, where he will serve out the remainder of his 18-month prison sentence.

Inspector John Clucas said: “Within two hours of receiving the information McLachlan was on his way back to Preston prison.

"This case is an excellent example of the police, media and public working together and shows how important that one anonymous phone call can be.

“We want these people bringing to justice and any details the public may have could be crucial, so I would urge readers to remain vigilant.”

Another man police are hunting for on prison recall remains at large.

David John Shorrock, from Nelson, was jailed for assault in February 2008 and remains wanted for prison recall and for questioning about a separate allegation of assault.

It is thought Shorrock could be in Accrington, Blackburn, or Burnley, and is described as 5’ 9’’ with blue eyes and has a small scar above his right eyebrow.
