A BOLTON pensioner who scooped £25 million on the lottery has been speaking about how he plans to spend his new fortune.

Family man Brian Caswell says he hope he can find a farm with three houses so he and 72-year-old wife Joan can live close to their two daughters and four grandchildren.

Next on the list is a Range Rover to get around in and plenty of travelling, including trips to South America and Rio de Janeiro, where Brian has always wanted to visit.

The 73-year-old keen gardener had won £10 on the lottery the week before so when he went into his newsagents on Saturday to pay his paper bill he hoped for another win on his Euro Millions lucky dip ticket.

‘I had won £10 the week before so walked in all confident and said to the lad “I’m on a roll, here’s another winner.”

‘When he scanned the ticket his mouth dropped open and he went ashen.

‘He called his boss to verify the numbers and told me to contact Camelot.

‘I didn’t have my glasses so couldn’t even read the numbers on the tickets so I headed home to get it into focus.’ Brian and Joan, who used to work for a funeral director, stayed at home on Saturday night and Brian even went to tend his allotment on Sunday before celebrating their good fortune at a family birthday party on Sunday night.

Joan puts the lucky ticket down to a habit started by her mother who died two years ago. She had always bought the family lottery tickets and when she died Brian, a retired export manager, took over the job.

He bought his lucky dip ticket from the Morrisons store on Mornington Road.

Family, including daughters Helen, aged 48 and Angela, 45 will share the win along with grandchildren James, Samuel, Laura and Holly.

“It is a legacy for the children,” said Joan “I can’t comprehend the figure. It is something I would never have imagined.”

Mr Caswell only discovered his good fortune when he popped into his newsagent’s to have his ticket checked.

Draw operator, Camelot, verified the win yesterday, making Mr Caswell, a keen gardener and charity champion, third place in The National Lottery’s Rich List. Today, he and wife, Joan, aged 72, will toast his good fortune at an event hosted by TV presenter Eamonn Holmes.

Mr Caswell shares the £49,902,538 jackpot with one other winner from Ireland.
