POLICE have praised two Good Samaritans in Colne who came to the aid of a man being mugged in broad daylight.
A 56-year-old man was walking along Cleveland Street when he was confronted by a would-be robber.
Sgt Andy Cartwright, of Colne Police, said that the man pulled his victim’s jacket over his head and demanded money.
He pushed the older man into an alleyway then threw him to the ground, he added.
The victim’s pockets were then searched and money was retrieved from them.
Sgt Cartwright said two Colne men, who had witnessed part of the attack, dragged off the attacker.
The pair forced the robber to return the money to his victim, before the man ran off.
Sgt Cartwright said that the men, aged 18 and 19, then gave police descriptions of the attacker.
Police later arrested a 41-year-old Colne man and charged him with robbery. He is expected to appear before Burnley magistrates.
