A CAMPAIGN to reduce the number of plastic carrier bags used by people in Lancashire has been launched.

Figures show that every year in the county the average household throws around 750 of these bags in the bin or 14 every week.

County Coun Matthew Tomlinson, cabinet member for sustainable development said: “There are lots of alternatives available to people rather than using plastic carrier bags but it’s about getting in the habit of thinking differently.

“Lancashire County Council is phasing out plastic carrier bags from its services, replacing them with ‘proper’ bags that people can use time and time again.”
