A TOWN crier helped a school celebrate its 40th anniversary celebrations.

The event, at Our Lady and St Hubert’s School in Great Harwood, saw town crier Peter Cornwell announcing the ruby anniversary throughout the school.

Pupils also played their part by wearing red for the occasion.

Eileen Hayes, chairman of governors at the primary school in Harwood Lane, said youngsters entertained parents at a special assembly with poems, singing and stories about the 1960s.

In the evening further celebrations took place when over 90 people attended a special mass in school.

Mrs Hayes said: “It was a joyous occasion with many former pupils meeting their ‘mentors’ of the past.

"We were able to trace the first deputy head of the ‘new’ school, Joe Bradley, and it was virtually at the last hour when he was contacted.

"We were all thrilled to see him.”
