A ROSSENDALE pub is taking a zero tolerance approach to stop drugs dealers using the premises.

The Riverside Inn’s owners, Dean and Sue Barber, have put up a warning sign saying anyone who sells illegal substances in the Rawtenstall pub will be reported to the police.

The sign reads: “Evidence has been found supporting our suspicions that some people have been dealing and taking drugs in the pub.

"We have been given the names of the people responsible.

"If the persons involved continue to disrespect us and carry on breaking the law, then we will have no alternative but to pass the names to the police.

"You have been warned.”

Landlady Sue Barber received a tip off from one her regulars informing her of suspect activity.

She said: ”This is the sort of issue we want to stamp out before it gets serious.

“What a lot of people don’t understand is that this is not just a pub but it’s a home, and I will not tolerate drugs in my home.

“I would rather have decent people in here spending a few pounds, than drug dealers spending loads.”

The Riverside Inn, which overlooks the Irwell on Bury Road, is becoming a popular establishment in Rawtenstall offering poker club nights and a full selection of sports channels.

Licensing officer Mark Driver, from Rossendale police, said: “As far as we know there has been no drug problem reported at the Riverside Inn yet.

“But as long as they are working with the proper authorities to deal with any drug related issues, then we would support the methods the staff are using to combat the illegal activity.”
