EAST Lancashire was battered by heavy rain on Saturday night causing a river to burst its banks and roads to become impassable.
Police issued weather warnings throughout the night in Ribble Valley, as roads around Sawley, Whalley and Ribchester were submerged.
And parts of Witton Park, Blackburn, were flooded when the river burst its banks.
Inspector Stuart Bruce, from Blackburn Police, said: “It looked pretty bad at one point.
"The A59 at the bottom of Sawley was impassable around 1am, as were lots of other minor roads.
"Water had subsided by morning, so it didn’t cause much disruption.”
Police put out warning signs and contacted at-risk residents in Whalley, Sawley, Bolton-by-Bowland, Langho and Ribchester in the early hours of yesterday.
