ONE of two men who raided and ransacked a couple of pensioners' home scattered the spoils over the green at Nelson Golf Club.
Burnley Crown Court heard how Matthew Lord, 20, and his accomplices – one of whom was the look-out – had seen their victim leave their Brierfield home to go to a hospital appointment.
When the couple returned home later they found every room in the property had been searched and jewellery, a watch box, two bank books and paperwork and receipts were missing.
The haul, apart from three rings which had been in a box, was later found by the greenkeeper at the golf club, who had been suspicious of the trio and had kept watch on them.
The defendant had since written a letter of apology to the victims, which had been handed to the judge. Lord, of no fixed address was jailed for two years.
David Macro, prosecuting, said the couple had been waiting at their front gate for her brother to take them to a hospital appointment before the incident took place.
