FOSTER carers have been rewarded for their efforts at a gala dinner organised by Lewisham Council.
The event gives the council an opportunity to thank the carers for their work.
Carers with the longest service records were given special awards presented by assistant deputy for social care and health Councillor Peggy Fitzsimmons.
The awards were followed by a dinner and a speech by Sybil Phoenix who was made an MBE in 1973 for her contribution to the community.
She was a foster carer in Lewisham for several years and heads the Marsha Phoenix Memorial Trust, which helps homeless people.
The organisation has also had an excellent response to its poster campaign receiving an average of five inquiries a day.
Lewisham Fostering's Vicky Conway said: “Of course we always need more carers. The number of children in our care is increasing. Call Lewisham Fostering on 020 8314 6655 if you are interested.
