Train commuters have been warned to expect delays of up to 40 minutes, which will impact services in Blackburn with Darwen.

This is due to a points failure, a fault with the movable pieces of track or their operating equipment that enable trains to change tracks, at Darwen Station.

Train services running through this station will be delayed by up to 40 minutes or will be diverted via Todmorden. Disruption is expected until midday today (April 3).

Services between Blackburn and Bolton are currently being disrupted in both directions due to the issue.

Network Rail is on site and are able to allow fewer trains to run until the fault is repaired.

A spokesperson for Northern said: “Due to a points failure at Darwen fewer trains are able to run on this line.

“Services running through this station will be delayed by up to 40 minutes.”

Rochdale to Clitheroe routes are impacted. The Rochdale service, which travels to Blackburn via Bolton, has also been affected.
