Darwen Youth Centre has temporarily closed its doors as work starts on its £3.3 million transformation.

The Knott Street hub is to double in size over the next year adding a brand-new first floor.

The extension will pave the way for a new creative workshop space, a recording and DJ studio, a gaming zone, multi-use spaces and upgraded outdoor sports facilities.

The closure is needed so the improvements to the youth centre can be undertaken swiftly and safely.

While work is underway, youngsters will be able to continue to access sessions at the new Darwen Youth Zone in Railway Road, at Blackburn Rovers Indoor Centre (BRIC), and at the Rainbow Centre, also in Railway Road.

To replace parking in Knott Street, car parking at Darwen Railway Station and Atlas Road has also been made free for the duration of the works.

The new youth centre is set to open in early 2025.
