A massive queue is pictured snaking its way along St James Street, Burnley, in September 1977.
Scenes like this were repeated all over East Lancashire after bakery workers went on strike across the country.
This had prompted panic buying and shelves being cleared of loaves within minutes. Bakeries began in introduce ‘rationing’ limiting customers to the amount of bread they could have.
Here Oddie’s was clearly expecting a delivery causing queues to form.
