A young musician from Burnley releases his first EP album today (September 7), days after organising a music festival in memory of his grandma.
Greg Worden, who turned 21 today, has released his first EP album titled ‘Life From 4-8’ following the success of REVIVE! 2023 on Saturday (September 2).
After finishing his A-levels, Greg took a year out to devote time to creating music before moving to university.
The album consists of four songs which Greg produced at Birdland Recording studio in Burnley this year.
Speaking about his journey into music, Greg said: “I got into music when my cousin was writing a song about road safety awareness for Calico.
"She wanted the song to be made by kids for kids so I started playing through that.
"I roped my best friend into playing bass and we started a band in high school.
“I struggle to remember how many bands I’ve been in but all the way up to last year, I was gigging with one band playing guitar and another band playing bass.
"At the beginning of this year, I thought I’ve got this big bank of songs so I released a single in January and then decided to make an EP.”
Greg’s music is inspired by a wide mix of artists, describing his first song as punk influenced by the likes of The Clash and The Jam, whereas his second song is more indie pop, noting The Smiths as one of the many influences.
He added: “My music is really inspired by whatever I’m feeling at the time.
"It’s a very diverse range which hopefully makes for an interesting listen.”
In addition to music, Greg’s creative endeavours include theatre and events planning.
He played Danny in Calendar Girls produced by Burnley Light Opera Society, and Mickey in Blood Brothers at Burnley Garrick Theatre Group this year.
On Saturday, Greg organised his music festival at The Loom in Bank Parade, Burnley, to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society in honour of his grandmother, Edna, who died in June.
Speaking about the event, Greg said: “All of the acts were really passionate about the cause and spoke about Alzheimer’s Society during their acts which was amazing. Everything ran really smoothly.
“The plan was for this event to be a one off but it was such a big success with a few people asking if I will be doing it next year but it’s early days. I certainly would like to do something like this again.”
"It went really well, the response was overwhelmingly positive from everybody. It was a crazy day from start to finish and it was only after when I realised the scale of the festival and how massive it was to have so many people perform in one day."
