Sunbird Records is taking part in the National Lottery’s United By Music Tour which will see a host of artists perform in Darwen.

The Darwen music venue will host the event, in association with the Music Venue Trust, on Friday, September 8 with WITCH FEVER headlining.

People are being encouraged to show their support for the grassroots music venue by buying tickets and choosing the National Lottery Special Offer Ticket option where you can ‘bring a friend for free’.

The venue was part of the Own our Venues initiative, backed by Ed Sheeran and this Friday Sunbird Records joins The National Lottery’s United By Music Tour for the first time.

It is also in its third year in partnership with the Music Venue Trust – supported with the full touring and production costs of the artists taking part in the United By Music Tours.

Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, Cllr Phil Riley said: “This is great news and anything that will support the growth of our towns is welcomed.

“Places like Sunbird Records give upcoming artists the opportunity to have their chance to perform and it’s important that people support them.

"The fact that the venue was part of the ‘Own Our Venues’ campaign from the Music Venue Trust and was one of only nine venues featured across the entire UK, is really positive for the borough and a tribute to the team that worked so hard to achieve that status.”

Sunbird Records also hosts open mic nights and showcases from local music school students and musicians alongside its regular band and DJ nights featuring local, national and international touring artists.

On Friday there will also be support from Sugarstone followed by an afterparty DJ set by local artist, Sky Valley Mistress.

Manager of Sunbird Records, Nathan Howard, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to take part in The United by Music Tour in association with the National Lottery and the Music Venue Trust. WITCH FEVER are one of the hottest bands around and are going from strength to strength.

“Gigs like this, plus support from the local community and The Music Venue Trust is helping us to develop as venue and attract big touring artists whilst giving the local up and coming bands, artists and singers platform to perform.

“In January 2024 we are taking part in Independent Venue Week and we are working hard to curate an exciting line up for this already.”
