A WOMAN caught stealing sandwiches at 9.20am did it because she was hungry.
Blackburn magistrates heard Lucy Fraser was stopped outside Greggs the Bakers and two packets of sandwiches were recovered.
Fraser, 24, of Bank Top, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to theft. She was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £60 costs.
Simon Farnsworth, defending, said hunger was the sole reason for the offence.
He said his client's benefits had been changed and as a result she had not received any money for six weeks.
"She was hungry," said Mr Farnsworth. "That is the top and bottom of it."
