A pub in Barrowford has been named the best in Pendle, according to the Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA), for the second year in a row.

CAMRA, an organisation which promotes venues that sell real ale and cider, has named the Bankers Draft, in Gisburn Road, as Pendle Pub of the Year 2023.

The small, community pub is known for its selection of ales and community feel, where “everyone knows everyone.”

Landlady, Tracey Holden, said she is grateful to be recognised.

Tracey, who has been running the pub since October 2014, said: “A successful pub needs two things - great beer and lovely customers and we are lucky to have both.

“I work hard to source the best cask ales available, and serve them on a continually rotating basis.

“The CAMRA award recognises that and I'm grateful to everyone that voted for the Bankers Draft again this year.”

Since the announcement was made customers have left messages of praise and congratulations.

One person said: “Brilliant news and well deserved.”

Another said: “Well deserved. Glad we finally made it up from Derbyshire this weekend – we had a smashing pint.”

“Many congratulations Tracey,” said a third.

It is the second year in the row that the pub has been given the award. Last year it was also named East Lancashire pub of the year.

At the time Tracey said: She said: “If you’ve been in the pub three times you won’t get out before I have found out your name and introduced you to someone else – that’s just how it works here.

“We have served 1,700 to 1,800 different beers so far. We try to have a selection on offer and we provide for everybody.”

In April the pub was named as the Lancashire Telegraph’s pub of the week.

Tracey added: "I’m lucky to have a great bunch of regulars, who I refer to as my Bankers Family.

“A few of the locals are also my ‘Bankers Angels' and offer occasional cover behind the bar for me.

"Other than that I run the bar single-handed and my angels are an absolute godsend.”
