THE APPRENTICE: Alex gets stuck in

WEEK two and Bolton's own Apprentice star rolled up his sleeves for an evening of washing dirty sheets.

The second episode in the popular BBC1 series, which sees hopefuls battle it out for a job with Sir Alan's company, showed Alex Wotherspoon, aged 24, of Rosewood, Westhoughton, help run a laundry shop.

This week, Alex, who looks after a team of 30 sales agents across the North of England, was one of four door-to-door salesmen who secured the sales and started the washing.

The other three members of the group drew up the price list and searched for large contracts.

Dressed in his pink shirt, Alex washed, dried and ironed 1,000 pieces of hotel linen, and two sacks of butchers coats.

It was this persistence that saved the boys' team and earned them £328, a larger profit than the girls' £195.

This proved a much better week for Alex, who last week was hanging on to his place in the competition by the skin of his teeth.

Under Alex's leadership, his team split into two camps, arguments broke out and stock was wrongly identified and sold too cheaply.

He was in the last three in the firing line at the end of last week's show but was saved by Sir Alan because he had volunteered to be team leader.

This week, to congratulate the team, Sir Alan sent the men to a special evening at London's Ritz Hotel.

The ladies meanwhile, said farewell to mosaic artist Shazia Wahab.
