A SPECIAL blessing will be carried out at St Barnabus' C of E Church, Blackburn, for couples who have been married for 20 years or more.

It will be carried out on Sunday by the Bishop of Blackburn, the Rt Rev Nicholas Stewart Reade, to mark the 20th anniversary of the church and community centre on Johnson Street.

The Rev Herrick Daniel, vicar at St Barnabus, said: "We are inviting all people who have been married 20 years or more to come down and recieve a blessing. Anyone at all can come.

"These days it is hard to survive one year, let alone 20 or more.

"The reason we've chosen to mark the occasion in this way is because the church has been married to the community for 20 years, and many people have received tremendous blessings from the church and the community centre.

"We had a meeting with a lot of people from the diocese and decided that this was the best thing to do."

The service will begin at 10.30am on Sunday. Anybody interested in taking part is asked to telephone 01254 56587.
