SOAP legend Dirty Den joins the Home Guard at Blackpool Grand Theatre from next week when he stars as Private Walker in Dad's Army.

Actor Leslie Grantham will take to the stage in the lovingly-recreated-for-stage production Dad's Army - The Lost Episodes, running from March 3 to 8.

We put some questions to Private Walker ahead of the show.

If I weren't talking to you right now I'd be ...

Putting the platoon through their paces - or perhaps flogging a couple of bottles of Scotch.

A phrase I use far too often is ...

Pssstwant to buy some nylons?

I wish people would take more notice of ...

My sharp suits - they cost a fortune.

If I could only eat one food for the rest of my life it would be...

Fish and chips - definitely not corned beef(you'll have to see the show).

My worst habit is...

Sister Mary Benedict - she owes for three bottles of gin!

A common misperception of me is...

That I'm a duckin' and divin' East End barrow boy, when I prefer to be seen as wheelin' and dealin'.

I spend far too much of my time ...

Marching up and down in the village hall, but these are difficult times The most surprising thing that happened to me was ...

Getting captured by a U-Boat crew.

I wish I had more time to...

Study the great philosophers.

You know me as an actor, but in another life I'd have been ..

A missionary.

In a nutshell, my philosophy is this:

You keep the home fires burning and I'll bring the Scotch.
