A YOUTH choir from Pendle is celebrating after two television successes.

Barrowford-based Arden Youth Choir beat thousands of choirs from across the UK to be selected to compete in the second round of the BBC Choir of the Year competition.

And the news came of their successes on the same day as they were travelling to London to take part in the second round of ITV's Britain's Got Talent'.

The all-girl choir, which has 30 members aged from 10 to 18, won through to the final 170 acts from the 120,000 who applied for the show before being eliminated.

The girls will now be competing in the next round of the BBC Choir of the Year competition on Sunday, May 11.

The competition is the UK's largest singing contest and if the choir is successful it will be competing in the semi-finals in a live show at The Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool, in November.

The finals are being held at the Royal Festival Hall, London, on December 7.

Susan Eames, of Barrowford, the choir's musical director, said: "We had a fantastic and unforgettable experience performing on stage in front of a full auditorium, the judges and television cameras for Britain's Got Talent'.

"The girls really impressed the judges, Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan, at their Manchester audition and it's a shame they didn't get through at the London audition.

"But we are really looking forward to competing in To be selected means that we have impressed a panel who know all there is to know about choirs."

The choir will next be performing at St. Andrew's Church, Barnoldswick, on Saturday at 7.30pm.
