A TRADITIONAL pot fair has made a welcome return to the streets of Burnley after being absent for the past couple of years.
Traders say the crowds attracted to the Curzon Street fair, which continues until Saturday, are proof that the old-fashioned gatherings are still popular in 2008.
Pot fair veteran Bobby Halket said: "There are a number of contintental markets around the area, but this is a Lancashire tradition which goes back many years so it should be given a chance."
The fair has moved to a new home beside Charter Walk and the town's indoor market.
Stoke-on-Trent native Bobby has been attending pot fairs in Burnley since the 1960s, along with his late brother Billy, and his brother Brian, who has been running a pottery auction as part of the fair this week.
Bobby said in previous years there were pot fairs in Burnley, Blackburn, Wigan, Todmorden, and Preston.
Today only the Burnley and Preston fairs survive in Lancashire.
