POLICE in part of East Lancashire are to have lessons in Polish to help them deal with migrant workers.
With over 2,000 migrant Polish workers in the Accrington area, a number of police officers will be learning some basic phrases in the language.
The scheme has been funded by Hyndburn Community Safety Partnership and the officers will have 10 Polish lessons starting today.
The Hyndburn neighbour-hood policing team has also set up a small working group to develop ways of engaging with the Polish community.
Chief Inspector Richard Morgan said: "Neighbourhood policing is all about being reflective of the communities we serve, in order to develop trust and confidence.
"Learning some basic Polish phrases will help us to communicate more effectively with members of that community and strengthen community relations in the Hyndburn area."
