POLICE have been unable to say whether they have followed a judge's order to review an officer's conduct over the handling of a rape complaint.
Judge Heather Lloyd, sitting at Burnley Crown Court, said that an un-named police officer "did not do the job properly" after a rape victim's report of the incident was not pursued. It was only when the victim repeated the report to another officer that an investiga-tion was launched.
Last week Duane Daniel Clarke, 29, of no fixed address, but from Burnley, was jailed for six-and-half years for twice raping the woman. Judge Lloyd said the police officer's conduct should be reviewed.
But Lancashire Consta-bulary was unable to say whether the judge's wish had been carried out.
The force was asked for a response at 9.30am yesterday but said none of the officers who knew of the case were available.
