A sixth former who moved her car 100 yards so it would be safe from vandals was breathalysed and found to be double the legal limit.

Blackburn magistrates heard Joanne Mary Green had a part-time bar job and believed a drink served by a friend may have contained a "generous" measure.

Green, 18, of Mytton View, Clitheroe, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. She was banned from driving for 16 months and fined £200 with £75 costs.

Claire Grant, prosecuting, said police saw Green drive from outside the Dog Inn to a car park on Lowergate. Their attention was drawn because she has no lights on.

Alfred Rebello, defending, said Green, a student at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, coached a ladies football team and the Ribble Valley netball team and these activities would be more difficult without her driving licence.
