PRIMARY school children will give a piece of classical musical a modern twist by rapping to it in a concert.

The eight and nine-year-olds from Padiham Primary School, will perform iat Preston Guild Hall as part of a bid to interest youngsters in classical music.

To prepare, youngsters took part in a workshop with members of Lancashire Sinfonietta.

The workshops, organised with £3,000 from Creative Partnership, gave children a chance to practice before taking the stage on March 17 with the orchestra.

Teacher Claire Byrne said: "The kids absolutely loved it. They have never been so excited. We are hoping to continue with the creative learning at school and plan on setting some money aside for this."

The concert will feature Saint-Saen's classic work Carnival of the Animals.

The Lancashire Sinfonietta's members are drawn from established orchestras throughout the UK with most receiving their early musical education in Lancashire.
