ACTOR Max Beesley has hit out at thieves who stole from his charity, brandishing them "mindless idiots".

The Hotel Babylon and Bodies star is an Ambassador for the Five Stars Scanner Appeal, which has a shop in Prestwich.

The theft happened last Thursday when shoplifters made off with a luxury bottle of wine that was being raffled as part of a Christmas Hamper.

It was being displayed next to the till in the shop on Bury New Road when the rogues pounced.

"It is disgusting that anyone would even think about stealing from a charity that is raising money for equipment that will save children's lives," said Max.

Krissy Edge, Community Fundraiser for the appeal, which aims to fund a £1million MRI scanner at the new Manchester Children's Hospital, added: "We have had to take money out of the raffle takings to replace the stolen item. It saddens us all that anyone would do this, especially at this time of the year."

In addition to the hamper a signed Manchester United ball is also being raffled. Tickets for both are £1 each and the draw will be made on Christmas Eve.

l Stars of Channel 4's Hollyoaks are urging people to join them in a double challenge for the appeal.

Cast members will be undertaking a fun run at Heaton Park on Sunday, April 6, followed by a parachute jump on May 11 .

Stephen Anderson, Five Stars fundraiser, said: "Some of Hollyoaks' hottest stars will be taking to the skies as well as testing theirskills on foot in the fun run.

"Emma Rigby and Kieron Richardson, who are Five Stars patrons, are building up their courage for the jump and are hoping members of the public will help their nerves by joining in.

He urged: "It is almost New Year and what better resolution than to try something new?

"Even if parachuting isn't for you, set yourself the challenge of getting in shape for the fun run to help us raise vital funds."
