A MAN who had been drinking with a friend he had not seen "for ages" was ordered to stay in the pub by police who were escorting Liverpool fans away from Ewood Park.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Gary Haworth took exception to his detention' and was eventually arrested for being drunk and disorderly.
But magistrates ruled the offence was not football related and declined to make a football banning order.
Haworth, 39, of St Albans Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in the Infirmary pub.
He was fined £80 with £65 costs.
Haworth said he didn't bother with football. "I had been out with a friend I hadn't seen for a long time, for ages and I got stupidly drunk," said Haworth.
"All I wanted to do was leave the pub and go to my friend's house."
