A debt collector was robbed while working in Leigh.

The 56-year-old woman, who works for a personal credit company, was collecting money from customers in Walmsley Road, Leigh, when she was approached by the masked robbers at 6pm on Friday.

The two men, who were wearing dark clothing and ski masks, accosted her as she was walking back to her car in Coniston Street and demanded cash.

They grabbed her bag, closed her car door on her arm, leaving a bruise, and ran off.

A concerned member of the public had seen the two men changing into the ski masks in a nearby alleyway and tried to stop them as they ran off, but the pair threatened him.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said: "I'm OK, but I'm quite shaken up. I'm determined that they're not going to get the better of me.

"I'm angry because I was just doing my job when this happened. I would just ask people, if they know anything about this, to contact the police as soon as possible so these men can be caught."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police on 0161 8565307 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Det Cons Peter Morris, from Leigh CID, said: "This was a horrible crime on a lady just going about her daily business. I would appeal to anyone in the community to come forward if they know who these men are and give them up so we can bring them to justice for this attack."
