A debt collector was robbed while working in Leigh.

The 56-year-old woman, who works for a personal credit company, was collecting money from customers in Walmsley Road, Leigh, when she was approached by the masked robbers at 6pm on Friday.

The two men, who were wearing dark clothing and ski masks, accosted her as she was walking back to her car in Coniston Street and demanded cash.

They grabbed her bag, closed her car door on her arm, leaving a bruise, and ran off.

A concerned member of the public had seen the two men changing into the ski masks in a nearby alleyway and tried to stop them as they ran off, but the pair threatened him.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said: "I'm OK, but I'm quite shaken up. I'm determined that they're not going to get the better of me.

"I'm angry because I was just doing my job when this happened. I would just ask people, if they know anything about this, to contact the police as soon as possible so these men can be caught."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police on 0161 8565307 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Det Cons Peter Morris, from Leigh CID, said: "This was a horrible crime on a lady just going about her daily business. I would appeal to anyone in the community to come forward if they know who these men are and give them up so we can bring them to justice for this attack."

Sorry to see that she was robbed, must be awful for her, as for doing her job well if she works for a well known credit company with the title P,I wouldn't call it a job pushing people into signing up for credit with very high intrest rates but then then she would be on such good commission to do that!

Who will be prosecuted? The robber who robbed the robber, or the robber who robbed the people short of cash?

Pushing people into signing up? I thought they had adverts in the paper and people phoned the company asking for a loan? Not quite the arm up the back technique you portray, is it?

No 56 year old woman deserves this... Sham on the b astards who did it... I hope they bought their last fatal bag of smack with it!

Err, how about managing your finances in the first place. It's quite simple unless you're an imbecile. Income v expeniture. It's so basic that it's beyond belief that people get it wrong!

Not always possible for some people Bilbo. Sometimes the odds are stacked against you, especially when you have a mortgage and kids. The only people that seem to be well off these days are the benefits scrounging scum.

My mother always told me, "Cut your cloth accordingly," and that is the best advice anyone can give you. Treat ciggies and booze as luxuries after the nappies, rent and food have been paid for and you won't go far wrong.

You cannot expect these firms to lend money at 5.6% interest when most of the bleeders default!

Look after your credit and get a better deal with the AA!

Don't, and expect to pay the penalty for ripping comapnies off.

Aye they do, but they also pressure people when they visit weekly to collect there payments usually by plugging there "Cash Loans" or "Argos Card", vulnerable people find it hard to say no but the people who collect don't care as long as they earn there commission.

I was stupid enough to use them some years back but thankfully I wouldn't be that crazy to return back to them, despite the endless letters I get in the post - this is despite writing to them many times to ask them to remove my name from there mailing list!

She didn't deserve to get mugged, no one does but maybe she will think twice now about doing this job. One of these collectors was killed some years back after she was mugged, is it really worth risking your life for?

About a year ago I heard a presentation from 'The Credit Union'. I commented on the high rate of interest to non-savers (it was about 22%), but compared with loan sharks it was very small. Not everybody can get a bank loan. I am a believer in, if you can't afford it don't buy it, but I am of the older generation.

I`m sorry this lady was robbed but so many people get into debt and never get out.I work in Travel and I was asked by a credit company to offer my clients leaflets to take out a loan to pay for holidays. I refused, saying I would never encourage people to get into debt simply for a holiday and he could not seem to understand my point.

Well done Sheila. I would have done the same. I get annoyed at celebrities advertising for loan companies.

Evidently not, otherwise the country wouldn't have cumulative debts of over a trillion pounds.

Must be nice to be perfect...

The Credit Union in Bolton is a good was to get a loan if you need one. The other thing about it is you have to save whilst you're paying the loan off. The minimum you have to save is £5 a month. Check it out on their website!

Yes I feel sorry for the 56yr old woman that was reduced to collecting unpaid debts an if that was the only job she could have got I feel sorry for her but some people cant help getting into the debt trap, its so easy to do not that people like you ((Bolton Dave, Tonge Moor)) would understand, that would be beyond your understanding and being permarmently disabled would be beyond that understanding also. Some people are playing catch up and the only way they can do that is to borrow, its just a shame that they have to borrow moneys for nothing more than complete (LOAN SHARKS)

I also object too this insolent and ignorant comment ((Bolton Dave, Tonge Moor))
Sometimes the odds are stacked against you, (Your dead right there, especially when your disabled thhrough no fault of your own).
The only people that seem to be well off these days are the benefits scrounging scum. Thats comletely wrong if the company that you had an accident (A REALLY BAD ONE, ABANDONED YOU AFTERWARDS AN HUNG YOU OUT TO DRY). I want you to know ((Bolton Dave, Tonge Moor)) that we are not all skiving cnuts unlike some I know. An because of my bad accident. I was left not only HUNG OUT TO DRY BUT I HAVE BEEN ABANDONED ASWELL. AN I HATE THAT FACT BELIEVE YOU ME. As they say though every dog will have his day, one day soon AND I WILL HAVE MINE.....

I wasn't getting at disabled people or people like yourself who are in debt through no fault of their own. I was getting at the scrounging scum of this country and now the rest of the world, who think they have a god-given right to live off benefits. If you re-read my post you will see that I stated that 'sometimes the odds are stacked against you', which is obviously the case where you are concerned Eddie. I also previously posted a statement that said benefits should only be available to those where there is absolutely no doubt that they are entitled. It is my belief that everyone who is able to work should be working and not scrounging off the state. I've been in debt through no fault of my own, (redundant with no pay off) and because I'd worked my whole life the stae wouldn't give me a pot to pi$$ in.
I apologise for upsetting you, it appears you have had a raw deal, and I hope you get it sorted out.

Poor woman. Someone has to do the job..I was a telephone debt collector and that was bad enough. I say she's brave, but shouldnt be going out doing that kind of job on her own, she should have been assisted. Hope the scum are caught and strung up.

Hey
Thanks for the reply
Bolton Dave (Tonge Moor).
I saw red, that was all it was, I dont like being registered disabled because it has its drawbacks (Some people think your not really bad or they are jealous that certain disabled people get free travel on public transport) but I cant at the moment simply because the transport (powers that are) want definite proof. I was burnt severely but when I applied to get a pass afterwards I was told according to them I didnt provide enough evidence like the surgeon who operated on me and another doctors report. So you can see that I am not getting everything my own way and neither are a lot of others that I continually read about in the press. This country doesnt care as long as they got what they wanted out of you, then thats, that an goodbye for the rest of your life. No-one will give people like me a chance to shine. they'll just stick us in a job were they think we wont get hurt again, so we wont claim damages again. So you see I'm up the creek without a paddle dammed if I do an dammed if I dont. Cant win, Wont win anything ever. Sounds bitter of me but thats how I feel. An I have done all the courses and training but thats it they just stick you back on the scrapheap an hope that you'll slowly disappear for the face of the earth. I have the willing an the potential but would you as employer take as the record abba says "TAKE A CHANCE ON ME" I dont think so. An lastly i dont feel sorry for my sorry asse I just get on with it an hope for the best. If I were an employer a decent one I wouldnt write certain people off before I knew the full story an if they did have bad days I'd give them the time to get well again an start again I wouldnt give up on them like most employers would but thats me. A good person but no wont be given the benefit of the doubt ever, ever
