BLACKBURN'S Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School starts a new chapter this term.
Dr David Hempsall retired as headteacher of the West Park Road school last week, after 12 years at the helm, and handed over to Simon Corns.
Mr Corns, who previously taught modern languages at Arnold School, Blackpool, has moved to QEGS from St Albans School, Hertfordshire, where he was Second Master.
He is married with two sons, who will both be pupils at QEGS from the start of the new academic year this week.
During his tenure Dr Hempsall steered the school through some major changes, including the transition to full co-education in 2001 - there had been girls only in the sixth form since 1976 - and introduced a new Early Years section, so that the school now welcomes boys and girls from the age of three through to 18.
