FANS of legendary steeplejack Fred Dibnah still have a chance to buy some of their heroes belongings to treasure.

The heritage centre will be open to the public this weekend who want to buy a keepsake or two.

The centre on Radcliffe Road was open last Saturday with visitors travelling as far as Dover to pick up something to remember Fred by.

Owner Leon Powsney said: “This is not an auction, we are just asking for people to make an offer for anything they want. We have Fred’s tools and they pick up a bargain.

“I am also giving away some glass panes for people who want them, maybe for their greenhouse.”

The centre will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 4pm and people can just drop in.

The museum, which is based at Fred’s former home in Radcliffe Road, opened up in 2010 and has given the people the opportunity to see the house, shed, tools and stay overnight.

But last year, owner Leon Powsney revealed he was planning on closing the centre and selling off everything.

Mr Powsney said that running the centre had taken a toll and he had to make the difficult decision to close the centre.

An auction was held last month.
