A MEMORIAL garden for a nine-year-old boy who died after a car hit him has been vandalised.

Wreckers desecrated the site at Daisyfield Primary School in Blackburn in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The memorial was constructed in memory of Adam Limbada, who was hit by a white BMW 4 Series in August 2016.

Joanne Ramsbottom, head of Daisyfield Primary School, said the vandals had taken a large rock from the memorial, dropped it on several paving slabs, damaged a window and broken a lock.

She said: “It’s completely mindless behaviour. It’s really upsetting for everyone at Daisyfield, the staff and children.

“I don’t know what comes to your mind to trash a memorial that was set up to commemorate the life of a former pupil.

“Those who have done this have not thought about the impact it would have on the school and the community as a whole.

“I was not head of the school when Adam lost his life. However there are still lots of children and teachers here who remember what happened.

“We will put the damage right but that’s not the point.

“As well as damaging the garden, someone has thrown bricks at the windows and heavily damaged one of them, which will have to be replaced.

“We hope the CCTV footage can help people come forward and identify those who were involved with this crime.

“If anyone knows anything I would stress they should go to the police.”

Adam, who lived nearby, was struck by the car as he was walking across the road to his father. He suffered multiple injuries and was taken to hospital where he died.

Following the boy’s death flowers were laid at the scene outside Barclays Bank in Whalley New Road, and people passed on their condolences to the family.

Kirsty Gagg, deputy headteacher at Daisyfield school, had said everyone at the school was devastated by Adam’s death.

Hundreds attended the funeral service at Pleasington Crematorium.

A 27-year-old man was jailed for four years after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

Sgt Steve Dundon said: “This is a distressing time for the school, the family and everyone involved with the memorial.

“We urge anyone living nearby who may have heard or seen anything on the night of the incident to come forward and contact the police.

“Any piece of information may prove important to the investigations.

“The police were contacted by the school. The incident is believed to have happened at some point overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101 and quote incident number 359 of April 18.
